INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — South Korean President Park Geun-Hye has confirmed Wednesday that the government has banned Viagra pills from entering the country.
Park has also stated that the country's medicine makers have also suspended its approval of Viagra, a medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction.
The ban was announced by the country's health ministry earlier this month after Park said the drug has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, although the agency has not issued a public health emergency.
Park's official explanation came just days after she received a letter from the South Korean government warning that Viagra pills were not approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and that the medicine had been banned for sexual enhancement.
"There's nothing in this country that is a prescription drug," the official said.
Park, who is also under the health ministry's immediate control, denied that the ban was imposed by the ministry.
"I don't believe anybody in this country is doing anything wrong," she said.
While South Korean President Park Geun-Hye has said the country has decided to halt the use of Viagra pills after a public health emergency, she said the drug had been approved by the FDA for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Since the drugs were first approved by the FDA in 1998, the drug has been used for years to help people with erectile dysfunction.
